At Air New Zealand, lying down on a plane will no longer be the prerogative of business class passengers.
The New Zealand airline has just unveiled the new cabins that will equip the eight Boeing 787 Dreamliners delivered from 2024. Anxious to respect the complaints of its passengers on "
the importance of sleep and the need for more comfort and space
", the company will install berths in economy class.
The compartments, called Skynest, will have six beds.
They will only be offered on the longest routes, in particular that between the company's base in Auckland and New York (5 p.m.), the launch of which is scheduled for next September.
Passengers will only be able to use the berths for a period of four hours to allow others to use them.
To lie down there, you will have to pay a supplement, the amount of which has not yet been specified.
Note that Air New Zealand already offers the possibility of transforming a row of seats into a sleeper with its Skycouch Economy service.

Air New Zealand is not the only airline to offer economy class sleepers.
Since August 2021, the German company Lufthansa has been offering on certain long-haul flights over 11 hours to “privatize” a row of three or four seats to install a pillow, a blanket and a mattress topper, for an additional €159 to €229. .
But the offer is very limited.
Only three “Sleeper's Rows” are offered per flight, and reservations are made only at check-in or at the boarding gate.
