The aggressor surrenders after spending several hours entrenched with a hostage in a block of flats in Santovenia de Pisuerga

A 45-year-old man has been murdered at dawn this Friday in Santovenia de Pisuerga (Valladolid, 4,300 inhabitants).

The alleged perpetrator of his death is an individual who shot him with a firearm and later barricaded himself with a hostage – his son-in-law – in a house in the block of flats where the victim and assailant lived.

Agents of the Civil Guard Special Intervention Unit were deployed around the home and cordoned it off to try to stop the attacker, who finally turned himself in after two in the afternoon, according to sources from the Government Subdelegation.

Hours earlier, he also shot a lieutenant colonel of the Civil Guard, head of this elite unit, who was transferred to the Clinical Hospital of Valladolid and is in a very serious condition.

Tension and silence have taken over the streets of Santovenia throughout the morning while a large team of agents delimited access to the block of flats.

Several people have been evicted and others remained in their homes.

A woman, who requests anonymity, assures that the alleged perpetrator of the shots had drug problems, had been in jail and argued with the victim on Thursday, whom she then waited for in the portal to kill him hours later.

Already at dawn, the daughter of this woman went down to the portal alarmed by the cries for help from the son of the deceased, about 25 years old.

The author of the shot, according to the story of this neighbor, then pointed a gun at the young woman and the victim's son, but the gun jammed and he could not shoot again.

At that time, the other son of the murdered man, about 17 years old,

punched him.

Later, she made the decision to hide in the house.

The daughter of the woman reporting the events ran home and locked herself in after saving her life.

She lives in the same building in which the man barricaded himself and has been telling her mother directly, by phone, everything that happened in the block.

The Civil Guard agents asked the girl for a pickaxe to try to force the door in vain, which they also tried to blow up with dynamite, without success.

Sources from the Government Subdelegation have informed EL PAÍS that, around two in the afternoon this Friday and after the mediation of a relative, the aggressor has surrendered;

the hostage, who has not suffered injuries, had been released an hour earlier.

At first there was talk of two hostages, but these sources have finally clarified that it was one, the murderer's son-in-law.

The injured civil guard is Lieutenant Colonel Pedro Alfonso Casado, 50, head of the Special Intervention Unit (UEI, the elite unit of the Civil Guard).

Casado traveled from Madrid hours before to attend to the event, reports

Around eight in the morning, the lieutenant colonel tried to access the house where the aggressor was entrenched: he rang the bell and at that moment the armed man came out and without saying a word he shot him in the head.

He remains in very serious condition.

friends since childhood

Carolina, the widow of the slain 45-year-old man, came running to the cordoned off area early in the morning and sat on a street bench, crying.

There she received the consolation of several neighbors and waited for news from the Civil Guard.

"I have not been able to see him or give him a hot kiss," the woman said, remembering her late husband, named Dionisio.

"The fight comes from a previous dispute: he said that I had punctured some car wheels," she added through tears.

The attacker and the deceased – who, according to the victim's father-in-law, lived in the same block of flats, one on the first floor and the other on the third – were friends since childhood, according to the neighbors, but they had grown apart. over time.

The delegate of the Government in Castilla y León, Virginia Barcones, who also traveled to the place, explained that on Thursday afternoon there was in the town "a tumultuous fight of about 12 people who had a previous relationship."

The man who would be murdered hours later and his murderer also participated in that fight;

the victim suffered minor injuries at that time, received medical help and was discharged.

Later, around two in the morning on Friday, the assailant returned to his house and shot him, killing him on the spot.

The mother-in-law of the deceased has interrupted when the Government delegate was giving these explanations at a press conference and, in the midst of great tension, she has accused her of lying.

The first notice to 112 of Castilla y León arrived at 1:43 in the morning: the Valladolid Civil Guard requested “medical assistance for a man who is unconscious after being injured with a firearm at the intersection of Alfredo Martín street with Marqués de San Felices street in Santovenia de Pisuerga (Valladolid)”.

The central services sent an ambulance and medical personnel, who could only confirm the man's death by firearm.

The sub-delegation of the Government in Valladolid has detailed that the fatal shot occurred in the portal of the deceased's property.
