The defense team of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has appealed to the High Court of London against the decision of British Home Secretary Priti Patel to extradite him to the United States, which is pursuing him for exposing its plans and wars around the world in leaks published by his site in 2010.
And the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) quoted a source in the judiciary as saying today that the defense team has filed an appeal against the decision to extradite their client Assange to the United States.
For its part, the Council of Europe for Human Rights called on Britain to refrain from extraditing Assange because this would have an impact on the freedom of the media.
The British government announced last month its approval of the extradition request to the United States, indicating that he has 14 days to appeal the decision.
Officials in international press unions called on the 22nd of last month for Assange's release, stressing that the British government's decision to extradite him to the United States is a "flagrant violation of human rights."
Assange faces 18 charges related to exposing the site that was created by nearly 500,000 secret files on the wars and crimes committed by the United States in Afghanistan, Iraq and others.
