Border controls to the G7 summit have proven their worth

Smuggling crime, violations of the weapons law, document offenses and people wanted by the authorities: the border controls by the federal police at the G7 summit resulted in a high hit rate.
The Federal Police in Bavaria has achieved its goal of ensuring a smooth and peaceful summit process.
As in 2015, the controls at Bavaria's borders have proven their worth again.
The operational measures in the period from June 14th to 28th led to a large number of hits: The Federal Police Headquarters in Munich identified 2,485 criminal offenses in the course of the temporarily reintroduced border controls on the occasion of the G7 summit.
Most of these are related to smuggling and irregular migration.
1,904 violations of the Residence Act alone were registered.
In addition, the federal police officers filed criminal charges for offenses against the Weapons Act in 72 cases and took action in 150 cases for violations of the Narcotics Act.
Likewise, 74 document offenses could be detected.
In addition, the officials found 1,098 people who were wanted by the authorities at the border controls.
231 of them were arrested or taken to prison.
Overall, the federal police officers in Bavaria checked more than 216,000 people traveling.

Blümel, who led the operation on the occasion of the G7 summit, is very satisfied: "After months of intensive preparations, one of the largest federal police operations in Bavaria in years has been successfully carried out.
The Federal Police Headquarters in Munich was deployed with a total of around 7,000 employees.
With our border and rail police measures, we have ensured trouble-free travel to and from the G7 summit events.
On the other hand, the federal police made a significant contribution to the security of the population in the event region and to the security of the G7 summit in Elmau.” He thanked all partners, in particular the Bavarian state police, customs, THW and the Austrian police.
