Buckingham Palace opens its doors to the public this summer

2022-07-01T10:58:05.564Z

As every year, the state rooms of the residence of Queen Elizabeth II will be open to visitors. Note that this only lasts a few months.

With their foreheads glued to the gates, visitors admire the limestone façade of Buckingham Palace like an inaccessible treasure.

During a stay in London, making a detour to this jewel of the United Kingdom is a must.

But the home of Elizabeth II exudes a mysterious aura: impossible to peek inside the famous monument.

Fortunately, tourists will be able, like every summer, to relieve their frustration from July 22.

The monument opens its doors to the public until October 2, 2022. Visitors will have access to the State Rooms, where official ceremonies and royal receptions are held, including the throne room, the white living room, the dining room, the portrait gallery or even the music room.

Paintings by Rubens and Sèvres porcelain

Sumptuously decorated, these rooms contain exceptional works from the Royal Collection Trust: paintings by Rubens, Vermeer, Poussin, Canaletto and Claude, sculptures by Canova and Chantrey, pieces of Sèvres porcelain and tapestries.

Part of the gardens is also accessible during this same period.

The doors of the royal palace opened for the first time to the public on August 7, 1993. The queen's guards then saw more than 4,000 people pass by.

Nearly 30,000 francs in revenue are recorded in a single day, a financial windfall for the palace.

The following year, 420,000 visitors flocked to the Queen's lair.

Since then, every summer, 19 of Buckingham Palace's 775 rooms have been open to visitors, most often when the Queen takes up her summer quarters at her residence in Balmoral, Scotland.

This year, an exhibition dedicated to the Queen's accession to the throne is to be discovered on the occasion of the platinum jubilee.

Official portraits of Elizabeth II taken by photographer Dorothy Wilding will be on display.
