Hand luggage used to be included in the flight and was allowed in the cabin.
But some airlines put an end to it and charge money for it.
Ryanair, Wizz Air and Eurowings:
they all have in common that they
are known and popular as
low-cost airlines .
In fact, tickets are often very cheap compared to other airlines such as Lufthansa.
But anyone who has ever flown with Ryanair and Co. knows that you often pay more in the end.
Things that you normally take for granted and are included in the price cost extra on low-cost airlines.
This starts with (too large) pieces of luggage, a seat reservation or drinks during the flight.

Now there are more hidden costs for passengers: Because the low-cost airlines have turned the price screw, as the travel portal
Reisereporter.de
reports.
If you want to take your hand luggage
with you into the cabin on a flight
, you have to shell out more money for it.
Only
small bags
may be taken free of charge.
Accordingly, many charge a fee, while it used to be quite normal to take hand luggage on the plane for free.
Here is an overview of the five airlines to be careful with:
Airlines where hand luggage costs extra: Ryanair
Since November 1, 2018, Ryanair has not allowed hand luggage cases to be taken on the plane free of charge.
Only pieces of luggage that
fit under the front seat
and thus have a maximum size of 40 x 20 x 25 centimeters are still free.
If you want to take a bag with you, you have to pay extra.
This can also only weigh up to
ten kilograms
and have a maximum size of 55 x 40 x 22 centimetres.
This will cost you between eight and 32 euros.

Airlines where hand luggage costs extra: Eurowings
If you have booked the Basic fare
with Eurowings
, you are only allowed to take one small bag with you in the cabin free of charge (dimensions: max. 40 x 30 x 25 centimetres).
This corresponds to a
laptop
bag, a medium-sized handbag or a business bag.
If you want to take additional hand luggage with you, you have to book it for
an extra ten euros
.
But there is an advantage: This also gives you "priority" status and allows you to board earlier than others.
However, only if the planes take off in the travel chaos.

Airlines where hand luggage costs extra: Wizzair
With Wizzair, only one bag with maximum dimensions of 40 x 30 x 20 centimeters per person is allowed in the cabin.
It can also weigh a maximum of ten kilograms.
For each additional piece of luggage, passengers must book “Priority” again.
Cost point:
between five and 40 euros extra
if you book online and 25 euros at the check-in counter.
Airlines where hand luggage costs extra: Easyjet
Easyjet has also followed suit and introduced
new hand luggage
regulations in February 2021.
This means that passengers are only allowed to take a small piece of hand luggage measuring 45 x 36 x 20 centimeters.
Again, it should fit under the front seat if possible.
If not, you have to book an additional piece of luggage, the price for this is
between eight and 58 euros
.
But: If you book a more expensive seat and/or with more legroom, you can also take a larger piece of hand luggage with you (dimensions: up to 65 x 45 x 25 centimetres).
However, you also have to shell out about eight euros for this.
Easyjet has tipped the mask requirement on some flights.
Airlines where hand luggage costs extra: Vueling
If you book the basic tariff at Vueling, you can stow a bag with the maximum dimensions of 40 x 20 x 30 centimeters under the seat.
If that is not enough, a
suitcase
(up to 55 x 40 x 20 centimeters in size) can
be
checked in free of charge if it weighs no more
than ten kilograms
.
If you book a more expensive fare, you can also take a larger hand luggage case with you on the plane.
