Former Greek Energy Minister Panagiotis Lavazanis called on his country to change its policy, lift all sanctions against Russia and conclude a strategic alliance with it, stressing that these sanctions are illegal and harm the whole of Europe.

Lavazanis said in a statement today, carried by RIA Novosti Agency: First of all, the sanctions imposed on Russia remain unacceptable, illegal and violate international legitimacy. They were arbitrarily imposed by the United States and the European Union and were not adopted by the United Nations.

He pointed out that these sanctions are directed against Russia, but it has now become clear that they were mainly directed against Europe, in particular against the countries that apply them, and that Europe is severely affected by the sanctions.

He pointed out that his country is turning to American liquefied natural gas and gas supplies from other sources and to severing relations with Russia, but these other sources will provide gas more costly and the consequences for the budget and the lives of citizens will be very bad, adding: Greece is entering a severe economic crisis as all of Europe.
