The rehearsals are over, the premiere is on Tuesday: The Karl-Ritter-von-Frisch-Gymnasium Moosburg celebrates its big musical comeback with "Little Shop of Horrors".

Moosburg

- A colorful poster announces the performance of the musical Little Shop of Horrors.

For classes 9 to 12 at the Karl-Ritter-von-Frisch-Gymnasium in Moosburg, rehearsals have meanwhile ended: next Tuesday, the off-Broadway classic will be performed on the stage of the Moosburger Stadthalle.

The overall management is in the hands of senior teacher Stefan Pellmaier.

With the musical, the educational institution is continuing a long tradition.

A big show is rehearsed every four years.

Since the premiere of the pop musical "Hair" in 2009, there have been the productions "Footloose" (2013) and "Fame" (2017).

Pandemic interrupted four-year cycle

The story about Mister Mushnik's flower shop, where a mysterious plant grows that hungers for human flesh, should have been performed last year on a regular basis.

Because the four-year rhythm had to be interrupted due to the pandemic, it was only this year that it was "It's Musical Time" again, explains Pellmaier.

"It's nice to feel the spirit of music in the house again."

A final touch was made to the plot during a test drive to Nuremberg these days.

The project manager believes that the individual areas – acting, singing and dancing, as well as transitions and processes – could be brought together better this way.

Many of the catchy songs have already been heard in the school's music room over the past few months: "Grow For Me", "Somewhere That's Green", "Suppertime" or "Call Back In The Morning" are the names of the horror hits -Musicals.

"Natural Discipline" suffered from the lack of face-to-face classes

For the murderous plant, which literally grows over the head of the flower shop employee in the plot, the individual parts had to be made to fit perfectly.

In the basement under the school auditorium, people did handicrafts, painted and constructed: the alien plant finally had to be given a huge mouth.

The best thing about the performances is the community experience, says Pellmaier.

He experienced this himself during his school days at the Josef-Hofmiller-Gymnasium in Freising.

At that time, there were musical productions under the direction of the music teacher at the time, Christoph Eglhuber.

"I still remember that very well.

I wanted to make this possible for our students as well.”

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The teacher says he already felt the consequences of the pandemic during the months of rehearsals.

The "natural discipline" of his protégés suffered due to the lack of classroom instruction.

"You had to push a bit harder than in previous years." But the school family is now happy that with "Little Shop of Horrors" a bit more normality has returned to everyday school life.
