Juan Jesús Trejo sent an audio to his family on Saturday where he assured that he had been "three days" in a place with some "50 people all crowded together", that it was very hot and that the two minors who were traveling with him "were sweaty and sweat."

It is an agonizing wait.

The last time they heard their familiar, he spoke to them in whispers from an undisclosed location.

"We are already here on this side in Texas," Juan Jesús Trejo told them in an audio message without raising his voice much.

Since that Saturday, June 25, his family in Guanajuato, Mexico, has not heard from him again.

Now they fear that he is one of the 53 migrants who died in an abandoned truck in Texas, but neither Mexican nor American authorities have confirmed this.

The audio obtained by Noticias Telemundo and first reported by the Televisa network is the only clue that his loved ones have.

“We've been here for three nights and three days, the kids are already very desperate, you need to talk to Toño so you can tell him what's up;

here there are about 50 people and all of them piled up

, a rest of tons of heat [so] for you to put pressure on him and jump on him because he is a bastard here, ”he told them in his last message.

Trejo, 32, left on June 21 from El Oro, a community in the central state of Mexico.

His first stop was Guanajuato, where his family says he met with the smuggler who was going to help him cross into the United States in exchange for a payment of $8,000.

In Mexico he was a blacksmith by trade, but the lack of work and the hope of finding better opportunities in the United States encouraged him to make the trip to cross the border.

Trejo sold his truck and used his savings to pay for the trip, excited by the idea of building a patrimony for his family by working in the United States, said his sister, Lorena Guadalupe Téllez.

But he wasn't alone.

He was traveling with two minors, his cousin and a friend of his cousin.

Trejo's relatives have not heard from them either, but they know from the audios that they had crossed together.

“This number is from the phone that they left here where they have us, they left it to a girl because we can't answer, so yes, check it out, Juanito, press it or let's see what the hell, because if we're from mothers

and the morros I tell you that they're fine pressured

and with the heat we are here sweat and sweat, so that you put pressure on him Juanito, I tell you that we are already here in Texas, we are already on this side, but we have been here for three days and three nights, check him out, ”he said.

Julia Martínez Juárez, Trejo's wife, acknowledges that "everything points to yes" she was in the

truck of death

.

"We are hopeful that it is not, but we need information," she added.

The Mexican consulate in San Antonio, Texas, contacted the family to tell them that they had found the phone of the cousin who was traveling with Trejo among the belongings of the migrants who died in the box of the trailer.

The consular authorities also asked Martínez if he had already gone to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to officially establish his relationship with Trejo.

"We're in nowhere because they just want us to wait for a call," he

said.

Laura Salazar is in the same situation: her son Álvaro Ojeda called her to tell her that he was going to get into a trailer with 50 other people.

But she is not sure if she got on

the death truck

.

"She told me that she shouldn't dial him anymore because they were going to take away his cell phone," she said between sobs.

In total, 67 migrants were crammed into the truck, without air conditioning, water or food.

On Wednesday, the Mexican consul in San Antonio confirmed that the victims included 27 Mexicans.
