Kaufering – After a few weeks earlier they had turned around an exciting final on the large field and secured the German championship title, things went the other way around for the Red Hocks U17s on the small field: In a bitter final including a 7:8 defeat against Dresden, they jumped for the young floorball players silver.

Coach Bernhard Wagner sums up his team's performance as a "very good weekend" without "a big hit".

Due to other appointments - final exams, the simultaneous relegation of the Kauferinger Bundesliga team in Lilienthal and the tightly packed weeks with German championships and trophies - his team traveled with a small squad at first.

The start against Dresden was lost 4:5 after extra time - so in the two remaining games two wins were needed to reach the semi-finals.

Against Bonn, the game threatened to tip over, especially in the second half, despite being in the lead several times.

In the end, however, the Red Hocks prevailed 8:6 before the clash with Gettorfer TV took a clear course with 17:4.

"Typical for the semifinals and the final was that there was a real slump in the middle of the game," says Wagner.

Against Dessau, the Kauferingers, meanwhile reinforced by two players from the Bundesliga team, which fought for relegation on Saturday, did not manage to break away further, despite a 5:2 (10th) and 6:3 (12th) lead.

The Red Hocks only made up for the deficit that persisted from the 24th minute through Calli Rieß four minutes before the final whistle;

Daniel Wipfler's 11:10 and Jonas Fellner's final score of 12:10 into an empty goal made the final perfect.

The icing on the cake was missing

The final then took a very similar course.

Kaufering failed to increase his lead to a safer height a few times.

The hope of making everything clear in another strong final phase was not fulfilled this time due to a match penalty imposed at a score of 7:6.

Dresden turned the game, the 30-second Kaufering final offensive brought nothing more apart from several dangerous shots.

"We had the icing on the cake several times in sight, but couldn't do it," regrets coach Bernhard Wagner.

“But some of our players, those who are eligible to play in the U15s, have the next chance of a good performance next weekend in Hanover;

we wish you every success.
