A huge landslide in the Cruz de Shallpa sector, Huari province (north of Lima), affected around 150 homes, Peru's Defense Minister José Luis Gavidia said in a telephone conversation with TV Peru. The event, according to the official, occurred at 6:00 pm (local time).

A huge landslide in the Cruz de Shallpa sector, Huari province (north of Lima), affected around 150 homes, said Peru's Defense Minister, José Luis Gavidia, in a telephone conversation with TV Peru.

The event, according to the official, occurred at 6:00 pm (local time).

The minister said that so far no victims have been reported, but they are mobilizing the brigade members to the area so that debris removal work can begin and determine if there are reports of missing persons.

Gavidia also reported that due to the rapid action of the local authorities, an important part of the population was evacuated on time.

For his part, the president of Peru Pedro Castillo spoke on Twitter and lamented what happened in the Chavín de Huántar district and expressed his "solidarity with the families and people who are affected."

He also called on citizens to "remain calm and we urge regional authorities to help evacuate them to a safe place to protect their integrity."
