In July, the pension increases and the minimum wage also increases.

There are also reliefs for Hartz IV recipients and families.

The innovations at a glance.

Berlin – July not only ends the school year for many children in Germany – there are also numerous innovations for most Germans.

Hartz IV recipients and families receive one-time payments from the relief package and retirees can look forward to an increase in pensions.

There are also changes to corona citizen tests, packages and the tobacco tax.

An overview of the most important changes in July:

Pension: Big increases in July

From July there will be a whopping increase for pensioners: in the west, pensions will increase by 5.35 percent, in the east by 6.12 percent.

There are also improvements for people who have been drawing a disability pension for a long time.

In the future, pensioners who received a disability pension from 2001 to 2018 will receive supplements.

The fact that the increase in pensions is as strong as it has been for a long time is thanks to the good wage development in Germany.

For employees from July 1st: tax breaks and higher minimum wage

But there is also more money for employees: the statutory minimum wage will rise from 9.82 euros to 10.45 euros per hour on July 1st.

That is an increase of a good six percent.

In addition, at the beginning of the month there are important tax reliefs for employees: For example, the basic tax-free allowance was increased from 9,984 to 10,347 euros per year.

This means that 363 euros more can now be earned without being subject to income tax.

In addition, the distance allowance for commuters will increase.

Not only for pensioners, but also for employees there is more money in July.

Hartz IV recipients: one-off payment and fewer penalties

There is also something for Hartz IV recipients in July: This month you will receive the one-off payment of 200 euros.

For recipients of unemployment benefit I it is 100 euros.

In July, there will also be an immediate surcharge of 20 euros per child per month for poor families.

In addition, many sanctions for Hartz IV recipients are suspended.

Relief package: child bonus for families and elimination of the EEG surcharge

In addition, further measures from the relief package will come into force in July: After more than 20 years, the so-called EEG surcharge, which customers pay via their electricity bill, will no longer apply.

It is currently still 3.72 cents per kilowatt hour.

Experts do not expect electricity prices to fall as a result of the abolition, but at least a dampening of the sharp increase.

In addition, the child bonus will be paid out in July as part of the relief package.

There is a one-time bonus of 100 euros for each child who is entitled to child benefit.

As a rule, families do not have to do anything: If they receive child benefit, they also receive the child bonus.

It's getting more expensive: Corona tests, e-cigarettes and packages

At the turn of the month, consumers must also be prepared for further increases in costs.

Anyone who has a rapid corona test carried out in a test center usually has to pay three euros for it from July.

This is what the new test regulation provides for, which Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) presented on Friday in Berlin.

The citizen tests should only remain free for small children, particularly vulnerable groups and when visiting care facilities and hospitals.

In addition, sending parcels via DHL will become more expensive at the beginning of the month.

A two-kilogram package whose brand is available online now costs EUR 5.49, which is 50 cents more.

The picture is mixed for shipments abroad: in some cases, the fees remain constant, in others they almost double, for example with heavier packages to the USA.

There are also changes to the tobacco tax.

For example, e-cigarettes will be included in the tax from July 1, so that the prices of the ingredients, so-called liquids, are likely to rise.
