Director of the Department of International Organizations in the Russian Foreign Ministry Peter Ilyshev stressed that the issue of sending UN peacekeeping forces to Transnistria "was not and will not be a subject for discussion."
Sputnik quoted Ilyshev as saying in response to a question about whether Russia considers it necessary to raise this issue at the United Nations, "Transnistria is not an item on the agenda of the Security Council... and the issue of sending peacekeeping forces there against the background of the statement of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is not under discussion at the United Nations.”
He stressed that "the issue of a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Transnistria is not worthy and has never been considered."
Russia's permanent representative to the European Union, Vladimir Chizhov, had previously revealed Kyiv's strong desire to open a military front in Transnistria, stressing that "such a development of events would mark the end of Moldova," after Zelensky threatened to strike the region, claiming to respond to "virtual attacks" emerging from it. .
