A new corona test regulation has come into force.

The chaos is great: neither pharmacists nor test center operators know how to interpret the new rules.

Gilching/Munich – Stefan Hartmann spent half the night brooding over the paper that the Federal Ministry of Health published on Wednesday.

A few hours later he unlocked his pharmacy in Gilching in the district of Starnberg - and already suspected that a chaotic day awaited him.

The new corona test regulation came into force on Thursday.

A few hours after the details became known.

In the future, only a few groups of people will be entitled to a free test (see graphic below).

Still others have to pay three euros.

And those who do not fall into either of the two groups must bear the full cost of the test.

That used to be 11.50 euros, the test centers could settle the sum through the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians.

Now that the federal government is no longer funding the tests, this is no longer possible.

Depending on the effort involved, the operators of the centers set an amount.

"It will probably end in a low double-digit sum," believes Hartmann.

He and his colleagues will have to explain and discuss a lot in the future.

But that's not even his biggest concern.

“Anyone who wants to be tested and is entitled to a free and discounted test must prove this claim.

Bavaria: New Corona Test Ordinance raises many question marks

After only half a day with the new regulation that Karl Lauterbach (SPD) announced, Hartmann has a number of examples.

An elderly couple came early in the morning.

Your son was on vacation with you, now he has Corona, but no longer lives at home.

"Both have to pay for the test." Second example: Someone wants to attend an event for which there is a test certificate obligation.

"Even a ticket is not enough because it is not personalized," explains Hartmann.

Pharmacists have a number of questions.

The authorities have announced intensive controls.

But nobody knows how customers in the test centers can prove their claims.

The 20 euros are an example amount.

The sum for self-payers will probably be in the low double-digit range.

Corona test: New process rules - pharmacists fear losses and bureaucracy

The Federal Ministry of Health writes that a visit to the hospital or nursing home must “be made credible to the test center”.

There is also talk of online forms that have to be stamped in the facilities.

"Anyone who gets a call from the nursing home that a relative is unwell certainly doesn't have the time to first print out a form, have it stamped, go to the test center and then drive back to the home." Hartmann fears that many people will soon don't even get tested.

And as chairman of the German Pharmacy Cooperation, he also suspects that testing will no longer be profitable for many pharmacies.

Especially since the new ordinance also reduced the share of material and the fee per test by one euro each.

The federal government created a bureaucratic monster overnight, he complains.

“Many pharmacists will discontinue the test offer.

And once the infrastructure has been shut down, nobody will start it up again – not even when test centers are urgently needed again in the fall.”

Meanwhile, Munich could still cancel the Oktoberfest 2022.
