Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that there are no reasons to stop the supply of liquefied natural gas from the (Sakhalin 2) project, after the issuance of a presidential decree nationalizing the company operating the project.

Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree nationalizing the Sakhalin Energy Company to become the property of the Russian government, in response to the sanctions imposed by some Western countries against Russia.
The property, rights and obligations of Sakhalin Energy, the operator of the Sakhalin 2 LNG project, will be transferred to the Russian government, and the assets will be transferred to Gazprom Sakhalin Holdings, a company established by the Russian government.
According to the presidential decree, the shareholders of (Sakhalin Energy) must inform the government within a month if they agree to acquire shares in the new company. Shell has a 27.5% stake in the project, while the two Japanese companies (Mitsubishi) and (Mitsui) own a 22.5 percent stake, while the other 50% is owned by (Gazprom).
At the end of last February, (Shell) announced that it would withdraw from the joint projects with (Gazprom), while Japan said that it plans to stay in both (Sakhalin 2) and (Sakhalin 1).
