The mayor of Eilat decided that vehicles would not be able to park along the entire southern coast at night.

Planning to come with Otto for a vacation in Sinai?

Think again:

Eilat Mayor Eli Lankri has announced that as of August 1, the Eilat municipality will no longer allow vehicles to be parked along the entire southern coast for those leaving for the Sinai Peninsula.

What is behind the decision is the blocking of traffic arteries by those passing through to Sinai, who leave their vehicles on the beaches of Eilat and cross the border into Egypt, sometimes for a period of a week.

As a result, vacationers who come to Eilat, and pay the best of their money for a vacation in hotels, are left without parking and without the opportunity to enjoy the southern beaches.

Eilat residents are also damaged and in many cases forced to use taxis to reach the beaches, in the absence of parking.

"In light of the phenomenon of parking and roadblocks being blocked by passers-by in Sinai, I proposed opening the Ein Netafim crossing as the main crossing to Egypt instead of the Taba crossing, which could make it easier for passers-by to Sinai and restore our quality of life," Lankri said.

"We have not yet received a response from the Ministry of Transport. Therefore, I had to take unilateral steps and informed the relevant authorities that as of August 1 we will no longer allow parking of departures to Sinai throughout the southern coastal strip without exception," the mayor added.

In addition, Lankri decided that the parking lot in the old airport plaza, which was originally trained for departing to Sinai, would become a paid parking lot.

The decision to ban overnight parking along the southern coastal strip in Eilat has already been made by the municipal transportation committee and soon signs will be placed along the entire coastal strip prohibiting overnight parking.

Vehicles that are not of Eilat residents or vacationers in hotels on the south coast will not be able to park at night.
