Residents of Roissy ask for a limitation of flights, as in Amsterdam

2022-07-01T09:51:31.759Z

It would constitute "one of the really effective measures to allow the air sector to reduce its CO2 emissions", according to the associations.

Residents of Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle (CDG) and environmental defense associations called on Friday for a cap on the number of annual flights at this airport, after the announcement of such a measure at Amsterdam-Schiphol in the Netherlands.

On June 24, the Dutch government set the maximum number of flights per year at Schiphol at 440,000, compared to 500,000 before the Covid-19 pandemic, wanting to tackle “

noise pollution as a priority

”, while recognizing “

a message difficult for the aviation sector

".

Residents of the region around Schiphol, a densely populated area, have regularly complained about noise pollution from the airport, and expressed concerns about the effects of aviation on their health, nature and climate.

A theme that finds an echo around Roissy, in the north-east of Ile-de-France: associations for the defense of the environment and residents of the equipment "

are delighted with this responsible decision, beneficial for the overflown populations of the Amsterdam region as well as for the climate

”, they indicate in a press release.

What is possible at Amsterdam-Schiphol is also possible at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle!

“, they assure.

A measure already implemented at Orly

The French airport, according to them, “

hosted around 500,000 aircraft movements in 2019, the equivalent of Schiphol.

We ask that a political decision be taken so that traffic there is limited to 440,000 flights per year in the short term, then that a reduction in the number of movements be initiated in order to protect the health of Ile-de-France residents

”.

In addition, pleaded the associations, this limitation would

also constitute “one of the truly effective and essential measures to enable the aviation sector to reduce its CO2 emissions in order to respect the emission reduction curve set within the framework of the National Low carbon from France

".

Among the signatories of the press release are the Association for the Defense against Air Pollution (Advocnar), and the local branches of France Nature Environnement and Greenpeace.

If Orly, south of Paris, is subject to a limitation of airport slots (250,000 movements per year), this is not the case for Roissy.

In its annual report at the beginning of June, the Independent Authority responsible for controlling airport nuisances (Acnusa) had noted better compliance with environmental rules (noise and air pollution) by the major airlines in 2021. But concerning Roissy, it had also called to “

very great vigilance

” vis-à-vis the foreseeable increase in traffic, in particular at night, after the Covid health crisis.
