The bathing jetty and island were only briefly in the water for an on-site visit.

It is now certain that they will no longer be used at the Lido.

Bathing island and plastic jetty are no longer let into the water.

The administration should check whether a wooden walkway is an option at the Schongauer Lido.

Schongau – The arguments for and against the bathing jetty and bathing island on the Lido were discussed in detail in the last two city council meetings.

Mayor Falk Sluyterman called for this time to be brief.

Managing Director Bettina Schade briefly summarized the risks that could lead to liability on the part of the city in an emergency.

For example trapping points, driftwood or uncontrollable manufacturer specifications (e.g. not to dive under).

"I feel uncomfortable," said Markus Keller (Greens).

“The administration sets up a threat that is probably intended to intimidate.

In terms of style, it's not nice." Even if he couldn't understand a large part of the risks listed, he had to vote against the island.

However, only because the manufacturer's specifications have changed.

Checking after every storm is associated with enormous costs and the effort is unbearable.

Michael Eberle (CSU) also criticized the administration.

For the Lido itself, a risk analysis is required, which has not existed until now.

You could also be held liable in the event of an accident.

According to Eberle, an inspection by DEKRA in 2015 showed that movements could cause traps in the bathing island.

"But at the time, the footbridge and the island were politically wanted."

"It is not correct to doubt a decision made back then with the knowledge of today."

The manager, Bettina Schade, sharply rejected all allegations: The management clarify possible risks to the best of their knowledge and belief, as is their duty.

Not to intimidate or upset anyone.

Furthermore, she herself only came into office in 2016, so she is not responsible for the assessment.

She also had to break a lance for her colleagues from the city building department: "In 2015, they did everything in their power to get the island and jetty into the water as legally as possible." Case law has changed, as have the manufacturer's statements .

An ex-ante assessment was required for the first time in October 2021 as part of a guide.

"It's not right to question a decision made back then with what you know today."

island can no longer be held

Eberle came to the conclusion that "the island can no longer be held".

In the meantime, so many dangers have been listed that it is no longer justifiable to let them into the water.

A hazard report that was proposed would not change anything.

"An appraiser will not take responsibility, but will write down everything that we have already listed."

Gregor Schuppe (ALS) also saw no way: "It hurts my heart." The manufacturer's instructions left no other choice but to remove the island.

"I lament the social climate in which we live."

Eberle assesses the situation at the footbridge differently: "It doesn't change the character of the Lido".

After the two swimming elements were advertised years ago as a promise to young people, it is owed to them to at least check whether the jetty can be held.

City master builder Sebastian Dietrich explained that the embankment had changed enormously over the years.

“The bathing jetty originally went straight into the water, now there is a 60-degree incline.

It's not usable like that."

Lido: Boardwalk to be checked

The administration had prepared various proposals for resolutions.

Eberle himself brought two more into play.

So he called for an expert to be commissioned with a risk analysis of the entire Lido.

The administration will do that anyway, it doesn't need a city council resolution for that, Schade interjected.

The resolution was accordingly rejected by a majority.

In addition, Eberle demanded that the administration should check by January whether the plastic walkway or a wooden walkway can be used.

You don't have to agree to that either, because it corresponds to a resolution proposed by the administration, it said.

Again it was rejected.

In fact, the administration's proposal differed in one detail: instead of examining both variants, it was suggested that the administration examine whether it would be possible to build a wooden bridge instead of the plastic one.

Ultimately, the board unanimously agreed.

The city council previously unanimously rejected the idea that the bathing island and jetty would simply come back in.

The committee also unanimously spoke out against a risk assessment of the island.

This decision was close in terms of plastic walkways: ten city councilors spoke out in favor of a risk assessment here, twelve against it.
