Smart bison: heavy traffic expected for the first weekend of major holiday departures

Several highways are classified as "red" by Bison Futé, this weekend of July 1. Traffic will likely be very disrupted on Friday and Saturday.


Friday, July 1 marks the start of summer festivities for some French people and Bison Futé is already predicting heavy traffic on certain roads.

On the main roads, traffic is "

difficult

", even "

very difficult

" (classified red).

Saturday and Sunday the estimates are similar, many traffic jams are expected and if you are leaving a big city, it is better to get behind the wheel early in the day.

For the first day of departures, traffic will be complicated in Île-de-France.

Traffic is classified red on the A10, from Paris to Orléans, and yellow for the A13 (towards Rouen) and the A1 (towards the North).

In general, Bison Futé recommends not leaving metropolitan areas and their outskirts between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., but special care is taken with the situation in Île-de-France, which it is advisable to leave or cross before 12 p.m. .

The South is also affected by major departures.

On Friday, traffic is likely to be "

difficult

" on the A63 from Bordeaux to Bayonne.

Further east Bison Futé anticipates slow traffic, it is recommended to avoid the A7 motorway between Lyon and Orange, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and between Orange and Marseille, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

From Aix-en-Provence to Nice, there will probably be many traffic jams on the A8.

Traffic for the rest of the weekend is likely to look a lot like Friday's, with perhaps more roads classified as "

red

".

Saturday July 2, it is advisable to leave the Ile de France before 8 am.

Departures from Paris will be very numerous, and the A13 (Rouen), A10 (Orléans, Tours and Poitiers) and A7 (Lyon, Valence and Orange) motorways will be the most impacted, mainly at the start of the day.

Traffic should ease in the afternoon, between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Bison Futé recommends not taking the A8 motorway between Cannes and Italy, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, the only axis of tension is on the A7 motorway between Lyon and Marseille (via Valence and Orange).
