From Thursday, a corona test for normal citizens will cost three euros.

The new test regulation has now been changed again.

Caregiving relatives also get the test free of charge.

Berlin – The summer holidays are just around the corner in many federal states in a few weeks, many people have planned their vacation.

Despite the increasing corona numbers, many are finally starting their summer vacation journey.

In many holiday regions, such as France, Portugal or Madeira, 3G is even valid again.

So if you want to be on the safe side before you start your journey and want to test yourself again for an infection with the corona virus, you have to take your wallet with you to the test center from now on.

From Thursday (June 30), the tests will no longer be free for all citizens, as they were before.

Corona tests: caring relatives do not have to pay anything

It has been known for some time that the tests for the corona virus will no longer be available to everyone free of charge from this summer.

In a federal test regulation, however, it was stipulated that some population groups would still not have to pay anything for the test.

This includes children up to five years of age, pregnant women in the first three months, visitors to hospitals and nursing homes, household members of infected people and all those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.

This test regulation has now been expanded to include a group of people: caring relatives can also continue to be tested free of charge.

With this change, “we are expanding the circle of those entitled to claim, but we are retaining the criterion for this,” explained Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach in Berlin.

"We protect risk groups with free citizen tests."

Corona virus: Further measures in nursing homes

The federal government has left it open to the states as to whether they will take over the three euro citizens' share.

In Bavaria, for example, many questions remained unanswered, even shortly before implementation.

You can read some basic points about the new test regulation here.

So while the tests are no longer free for the general public, Karl Lauterbach is already thinking of another corona protection measure.

He calls for the reintroduction of the mask requirement in nursing homes.
