New Delhi-SANA
Today, the Indian authorities announced the death of 27 people, including six members of the army, and the loss of others after a massive landslide occurred in northeastern India.
"A landslide occurred at a railway construction camp in Noni district in Manipur state yesterday, killing 27 people, including six army personnel who were guarding the site, noting that rescue operations are still continuing for the third consecutive day to search for missing persons," local media reported.
The landslide also blocked the river flowing through the Taminglung and Noni districts and created a dam-like body of water that is likely to flood low-lying areas once debris is removed, while local authorities have issued warnings to residents of low-lying areas to evacuate in case of more rain.
A previous toll indicated that 14 people were killed and 50 others were missing due to the collapse.
