An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit Xinjiang, northwest China.
The quake hit Beishan County in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at a depth of 10 kilometers, Xinhua news agency quoted the China Earthquake Networks Center as saying.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the tremor.
