Especially on excursion days, as here at the entrance to Schliersee, traffic is backed up.

A mobility concept is intended to help reduce so-called motorized private transport.

Fewer cars on the streets, more convenient public transport: traffic in the district of Miesbach, which is characterized by commuters and day tourists, is to become quieter and more sustainable - with the help of a mobility concept.

District – On winter and summer weekends, car avalanches roll from Munich towards the mountains.

Numerous people from Oberland commute to work in Munich and back every day.

In addition, there are car journeys within the district because local public transport is inadequate and dissatisfied cyclists are demanding more cycle paths and parking spaces.

The problems are not new, and there are already measures to improve them.

However, these are "isolated islands" that would have to be brought together, as Alfons Besel (FWG) said approvingly in the district development committee after Birgit Eibl (FW) had explained her group's motion.

This provides for the creation of an integrated and sustainable mobility concept for the district.

One of the aims is to reduce what is known as motorized private transport (MIV), particularly in light of the opportunities that could open up as a result of the planned joining the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV).

The model is the mobility concept of the municipality of Holzkirchen, where Eibl is a municipal councilor.

"We've had very good experiences with it," she said.

Other districts, such as Fürstenfeldbruck, already have a mobility concept.

"It is clear that we cannot completely do without motorized private transport," says Eibl.

But the enormous burden of motorized individual transport can be reduced by sensible and tolerable measures.

However, this requires the expertise of an external expert who creates a mobility concept, taking into account the special conditions in the district.

With the continuation and updating of the local transport plan, the district has already created a good basis for improving mobility.

It is now a matter of coordinating the further, individual measures.

The aim is to develop an overall strategy that takes into account, among other things, traffic avoidance, traffic relocation and e-mobility.

"The focus is on local public transport, but we also have to take other road users into account," said Eibl.

It is about networking different routes so that people can switch to buses and trains.

The costs for the creation of a mobility concept should be taken into account in the budget planning.

Eibl didn't have to do any convincing - the district councils were immediately in favor of it.

They only worked on the exact wording.

Among other things, the mobility concept should not be in place until December 2023, as suggested by Eibl, but rather “promptly”.

District Administrator Olaf von Löwis (CSU) had pushed for this.

"The experience from Holzkirchen shows that this cannot be done before the MVV joins," he said.

"But I don't want to make any promises that I can't keep." The first thing to do is to say: "We want a mobility concept." The schedule could follow later.

Olaf Fries (ÖDP), on the other hand, made steam.

He wanted to specify the reduction in MIV.

“We should reduce by 50 percent,” he says.

This corresponds to the CO2 reduction resulting from the district's goal of being climate-neutral by 2035.

The reduction should take place "without restricting tradesmen traffic".

Ultimately, the general formulation remained that of having a mobility concept drawn up.

According to Löwis, not only the resulting measures can be subsidized by the state, but also the creation itself.
