Cologne Carnival Association gives a special gift to the dying

Cologne: So that the dying in the St. Marien Hospice have a nicer view – Nippeser vigilantes beautify the dreary wall with a lively forest motif.
Cologne – Actually, the Cologne carnival is supposed to break down walls instead of building or strengthening new ones.
The traditional corps of the Nippeser Bürgerwehr has now done exactly that - for a good cause.
The carnival society from Cologne has now covered a wall in the rear area of the Hospice St. Marien in the Cologne-Nippes district with a picture of a forest clearing, reports 24RHEIN.

The reason: So far, the patients of the hospice looked at a dreary stone wall.
"In order to offer the dying a more pleasant view, the image of a forest clearing with sunrise was placed on metal plates and placed in front of the wall," said the Nippes militia.
The photo wall was donated by the Senate of the Traditionskorps.
“Our liaison officer Hermann Josef Lemm takes care of exactly such issues.
He then came to our board and said that there is a wall here that isn't pretty.
And we were then asked if we could help,” recalled President Michael Gerhold at the opening.
The bare stone wall at the St. Marien Hospice in Cologne-Nippes is to be embellished with a photo print.

"The promise of the Nippeser militia came very quickly," says Pit Zimmermann, facility manager of the Hospice St. Marien.
"The main thing was that the guests in the lower area didn't look at such a bare brick wall, but simply saw a different picture."

No sooner said than done: the photo wall on the brick wall was inaugurated on June 30th.
"We can help people who are not doing so well," Appelsinefunke President Gerhold continues.
"Instead of looking at a dreary wall, you now see the green forest.
We're not just Fastelovend.
We as the Nippeser vigilante carry the district in our hearts and are therefore also there for our Veedel.
The action fits like a glove.”

Overall, the wall is 15 meters long and 2.50 meters high - and finding a corresponding photo wasn't that easy, reveals the president of Appelsinefunke.
That is why the picture was placed on several metal plates and these were placed in front of the wall.
"With the wall that we have designed here, we want to offer a smile and a perspective," summarizes Senate President Alexander Rifle.
