Demo in Berlin: Thousands demonstrate against the federal government's military spending

Several thousand people demonstrated in Berlin on Saturday against the federal government's military spending.
According to the police, around 1,400 people protested in Berlin against the increased build-up of the Bundeswehr as a result of the Ukraine war under the motto "We are not paying for your wars!".
The organizers spoke of around 4000 participants.
According to the police, the demonstration on Saturday afternoon (July 2) passed without incident.

The alliance “Civil Times Turning” had called for the action.
Instead, it wants to spend the additional 100 billion euros earmarked for the Bundeswehr on expanding the welfare state.
It was said that the money should be used to permanently increase spending on social affairs, health, education, culture and the climate.

Ukraine conflict: Demo against military spending ends without incident
The demonstration began in the afternoon on Bebelplatz in Berlin-Mitte and was to end there in the evening with a party.
After the start of the Ukraine war, Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke in the Bundestag of a "turning point" and announced that the Bundeswehr would be upgraded.
