The Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Daraa estimated the governorate’s production of the maqathi crop of “cups, ajour, and cantaloupe” and other cucurbits grown as rainfed for the current season at about 684 tons.
The head of the plant production department in the directorate, Eng. Wael Al-Ahmad, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that the planned area of the Muqathi crop in the current agricultural season amounted to 687 hectares, of which farmers implemented 228 hectares, indicating that the marketing process for the crop begins at the beginning of June of each year, with an estimated profitability of about three tons. per hectare.
He pointed out that Al-Maqathi is cultivating Baal in most areas of the province, and the production is marketed to the markets of Daraa and Damascus.
