As-Suwayda Agriculture Directorate estimated the production of 57771 tons of the tomato crop for the current season within the cultivated areas of more than 6150 dunums.
The director of As-Suwayda Agriculture, Ayham Hamed, indicated in a statement to SANA reporter today that the estimated production is rather good, especially for the irrigated areas, which occupy the majority of the areas planted with tomatoes, whose production is concentrated in the sites of wells, especially in the western region of the governorate.
And Eng. Hamed indicated that tomato cultivation occupies the first place among summer vegetables in Sweida in terms of cultivated areas, productivity, and the annual job opportunities it provides to workers in its cultivation and harvesting and selling seasons.
As-Suwayda’s production of tomatoes last season amounted to 75,000 tons within cultivated areas, which amounted to 8100 dunums.
