An embarrassing diplomatic moment passed over the Prime Minister of Canada yesterday (Thursday) in Madrid, when he seemed to have forgotten the name of the new Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, and then referred to him as "Tony", when the two met on the sidelines of NATO summit
. And, but was invited with New Zealand, South Korea and Japan to the summit due to growing tensions with China and the invasion of Ukraine.
The two leaders met at the summit and posed for cameras.
However, when he introduced Albanese, the Prime Minister of Canada got confused and stammered when he might have tried to remember his name.
"It's a real pleasure to meet ... ah ... ahhh .... ah a great progressive leader," Trudeau said at last.
"We are very, very excited to have ... ahhh ... a friend in Australia. Australia is an old friend. We talk a lot with ... ah ... Tony and all our friends in Australia."
Albanese acted nobly and did not dwell on the embarrassing moment.
