Giampaolo Baggio, the 31-year-old hiker from Torreano (Udine), missing for a week in the mountains above Pulfero, in Friuli, is alive and in fair conditions, and whose hopes had practically been lost.
The man was instead spotted by the fire brigade helicopter during yet another flyby over the Palma ferrata, where the hiker had said he was headed.
He was a hundred yards away from the route he had announced he wanted to take.
It was located in a deep gully from which it was impossible to ascend independently.
When the rescuers identified and recovered it, it was very tried, but overall in fair conditions.
He had some bruises caused by falling into the same gully.
However, he was
very dehydrated
.
The man, an engineer by profession, was taken aboard the helicopter to base camp, where he landed independently.
Visited by an ambulance's doctors, he was taken to the hospital to check in detail the conditions after seven nights spent in the mountains, with very little food and water.
