Tempo 30 twice – withdrawn twice: The municipalities of Wörth and Ottenhofen recently faced the same problem and had to remove such a speed limit on two of their streets.

Wörth/Ottenhofen

– The speed reduction to 30 km/h issued by the municipality of Wörth on Schwillachstraße for safety reasons had to be lifted.

The reason: a letter of complaint from a district citizen, on the basis of which the district office as the lower traffic authority and the Erding police inspection "checked the order and classified it as unlawful".

Mayor Thomas Gneißl (ÜPWG) announced this at the municipal council meeting.

The signage has already been removed.

The municipality justified the speed limit with three arguments.

They all aimed to ensure more safety on the way to school in the direction of Kreisstraße ED 4 (Hörlkofener Straße) and further in the direction of St. Koloman and the S-Bahn station, as well as to improve the safety of bathers on their way to the Baggerweiher.

In addition, the storage locations with entrance and exit areas were listed.

However, these reasons are not shared by the district office and the police.

"Schwillachstrasse has a one-sided, well-developed sidewalk, on which the way to school can be shown without risk," says the official letter.

From the point of view of the lower traffic authority, the exit from the storage area does not represent “an increased risk situation”. The path to the pond can also be covered safely on the well-developed municipal road.

"Maybe we overestimated our skills," said the Wörth community leader in an interview with our newspaper.

Believing in their own responsibility, they acted on their own initiative.

"We felt on the safe side," explained Gneißl and admits that it might have been "a bit naïve": "The police and lower traffic authorities should have been involved." In the future, the voting process will be followed.

The municipality of Ottenhofen has also burned its fingers on the subject - and did not want to do it again.

It is with great regret that the building committee unanimously rejected a citizen's request to limit Schwillacher Strasse completely to 30 km/h.

This request had no chance, the administration had to explain repeatedly in the submission.

On the occasion, Mayor Nicole Schley (SPD) also made it clear that it was a citizen from this same street who had taken action against the speed limit, as initially ordered by the municipality.

Now another demanded exactly what the community has to take back in parts.

As reported, the aim was to make Schillacher Strasse safer by restricting it - after all, it is the way to school and kindergarten.

However, the length of the arrangement did not fit.

30 km/h still apply in the area around the school, but not beyond that.

However, outside of Ottenhofen, in the direction of Unterschwillach, there could still be a speed limit of 60 km/h, very similar to the direction of Herdweg.

The citizen who would like to have the 30 kilometers per hour on Schillacher Straße also wrote that in his application.

In this case, the committee also unanimously decided to make this issue a topic at the next traffic show.

In this context, Andreas Lippacher (FW) recalled that Schwillacher Strasse is part of the road expansion plan.

"It's an issue that we've been putting off for years," he said.
