In Maisach, too, there will soon be a security guard: volunteers who check on lakes, train stations and squares - and call the police in an emergency.
This is to prevent crimes from happening.
Maisach – The model project is based on the police in Olching and includes Olching and Maisach as well as Karlsfeld (Dachau district).
After the Olchinger city council and the Karlsfeld municipal council, the committee in Maisach has now also approved.
The project will initially run for a year.
An interim report is made after six months, and after nine months a decision is made as to whether and how to proceed.
No backup police
Police officers Martin Hofmann and Alexander Lell introduced the security guard to the municipal council.
"This is not a replacement police force," said Hofmann.
Rather, the volunteers - they should be between 18 and 62 years old and receive a tax-free expense allowance of eight euros per hour - would "take on one of the noblest tasks of the police: prevention".
Because the security guards are in uniform, crimes can be prevented from the outset, such as disturbing the peace at night at a lake: if partygoers see that they are being watched, they are more likely to pull themselves together.
"Just looking is a great help," emphasized Hofmann.
At least you've only had good experiences in other places.
The watch is also well received by the population - it strengthens the feeling of security,
Right to send off
The volunteers are selected by the police and trained in 40 teaching units, such as non-violent communication, local law and first aid.
You are not traveling alone, you have a pepper spray with you in self-defense and you are connected to the police by radio.
They are allowed to exercise the “right to public access”, which incidentally every citizen is entitled to: If they catch someone in the act of committing a crime, they are allowed to hold them until the police arrive.

FFB newsletter.)
The security guards are also allowed to collect personal details and pass them on to the police, question people on the street and issue evictions.
The service is paid for by the state and there are no costs for the municipalities.
Only on public areas
Lell and Hofmann see the security guard primarily as a backup for the police: "We can't be everywhere." The officers hardly have any time left for prevention work.
In case of doubt, however, the police are always responsible for public safety.

It is important that the security guards are only out and about in public areas.
They do not replace security guards at events, for example.
Hofmann emphasized: "We are not looking for Rambos and no deputy sheriffs, but normal people who have both feet firmly on the ground." From next week they want to look aggressively for volunteers.
For Olching and Maisach together he would like 14 to 16 volunteers.
In Maisach they should check the three train stations.
There is currently a lot of littering and vandalism, especially at the train station in Malching.
When and where the volunteers are used is determined in consultation with the municipal regulatory office.
