The decomposing bodies of 31 people, along with the ashes of 16 others, were discovered by officers inspecting a funeral home in Indiana, police announced Saturday.
The inspection of the Lankford Funeral Home and Family Center came as a result of a notice about the state of the business, said Maj. Isaac Parker of the Police Department in Jeffersonville, Indiana, a city near Louisville, Kentucky.
The bodies were in different stages of decomposition, according to the police, although they did not clarify if they suspect that there was any type of crime.
No arrests have been made.

Jeffersonville police said the discovery is part of an ongoing investigation.
Funeral home owner Randy R. Lankford did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The find was made Friday by agents, and Lankford was made aware of the discovery, Parker said.
Police said the facility had been secured and no one answered the funeral home's phone Saturday night.
