A wave of calls from non-existent relatives, supposed Microsoft employees or fake police officers swept through the Erding district on Friday.

Most of the people called did not reveal any data or passwords.

Only one man was careless.

Erding

– Once again, scammers have tried to get hold of citizens' assets or data.

The Erding Police Inspectorate reported a large number of calls to district residents on Friday.

Those called recognized the attempted fraud and did not respond to the demands.

Only a 65-year-old from the southwestern district granted a supposed Microsoft employee remote access to the PC and was subsequently unable to access it.

It has yet to be determined whether damage has occurred.

The scammers pretended to be close relatives or employees of Microsoft or the European police agency Europol.

In the tall tales it is claimed.

a relative needs help or money urgently.

In another variant, an alleged Europol employee spoke of alleged identity theft and offered his help.

With false information like this, the telephone scammers try to get hold of the assets or access data and passwords of the person called.

The Erding Police Inspectorate therefore urgently advises not to disclose any data or passwords on the phone and not to initiate a money transfer when requested to do so by telephone.

After such calls, the nearest police station is to be informed.
