This past weekend has definitely been a very sad weekend for the gaming industry.

In less than 24 hours, we came across two different scenarios involving creators in the gaming industry who suffer from so-called "toxic fans" - players with a little too passionate passion for topics they like, who are unwilling to accept "no" as an answer.

The first incident that occurred over the past weekend was when

Corey Berlog

, the director of the game God of War (2018) noted to fans that they need to be a little patient with news about Ragnarök, a sequel to which all PlayStation players expect.

Some of the hype and enthusiasm over the weekend was created because and over the past month the (relatively reliable) leaking industry figure,

Jason Schreier

, has noted that Sony will release a statement on Ragnarök's release date on June 30th.

Which of course did not happen in the end.

Berlog was forced to release a statement on his Twitter page to reassure avid fans: "If it was up to me, I would share all the information with you. But it is not up to me. So please, be patient. I promise we will share everything we can as soon as possible. We make games for you, and we make games for you. "

Berlog also had to argue with some of the fans who kept insisting and did not know how to get a "no" as an answer, and even replied to the leaker directly, noting that the game was not postponed.

It turns out that Corey Berlog's answers were not necessarily enough, and a handful of fans decided to adopt the tactics of the dating world, and send photos of their private organs to developers in Santa Monica.

Probably thinking that a picture of a penis is what will make them release the information they are "holding captive".

And we can not help but wonder ... why?

Monkey Island creator blocks fans

The second case was when

Ron Gilbert

, the creator of the mythical Point & Click series Monkey Island, caught fire from fans who were not happy with the artistic direction (art) that the new game in the series adopts.

Gilbert was forced to post a statement on his official blog that he was blocking the possibility of user comments: "I disable the comments. People are just acting mean and I had to delete comments that attacked me personally."

Gilbert's defense was also joined by

Dominic Armato

, who dubbed the character of Guybrush Thripwood at the Monkey Island Games, who responded on Twitter: "Great job everyone. I saw enthusiastic discussions, some polite, some less so, but the comments on Ron's blog were a serious mess. "How you want Monkey Island to look, to turn the developers' lives into a nightmare is the way to make sure that in the end no one gets the game."

The gaming industry and seniors go out against "toxic" fans

Since those two cases quite a few Twitter accounts of content creators, game directors, web anchors and a host of other people from the industry have been filled with posts expressing support for game developers and creators like Berlog and Gilbert.

Berlog himself expressed deep shock at the move: "Are you kidding me ??? I can 't believe I'm saying this at all, but do not send pictures of your ** to anyone on the staff, or to anyone in the industry. They are ripping their ass off so you can Enjoy. Look a little respectful. "

And also asked Monkey Island fans not to send similar photos to Ron Gilbert.

Neil Druckman

, the director of Naughty Dog, also

joined the defense of his colleague Masoni, noting, "Wow, even innocent adventure games are no longer safe from attacks by toxic 'fans' who think they know better than the original creators."

Druckman speaks out of personal and deep pain, having also caught fire from fans who were unhappy with the sequel The Last of Us II when it came out about two years ago.

twitter

Content creator

Elena Pierce

, who was recently hired as a writer for Naughty Dog, posted: "Shouting at people over computer games will not accomplish anything."

Alex Mann

, a senior developer at EA, noted:

Or why are they not communicating with the community?

that's why.

100%.

It is not worth the personal cost and the damage to mental health. "

There is no doubt that this is a very new low level of online discourse, which unfortunately worsens as time goes on.
