Allegations in Iran: "Israel Invaded Lebanon's Intelligence Service" | Israel today

An investigation published by the Tassanim news agency states that the Mossad was able to recruit a senior official in Beirut's intelligence services to pass on information about what was happening in the country.

This morning, the Iranian news agency Tasnim published a major investigation into Israeli intelligence activities in Lebanon, with an emphasis on the successes of the Jewish state and its emissaries in the field of cyber and the recruitment of agents on social networks.

The investigation, which apparently originated inside an Lebanese intelligence service, claimed that Israel had recruited a "very close source to the commander of the intelligence organization" and that this was revealed following the arrest of a large spy network, composed mostly of young people active in Palestinian organizations, late last year.

In January, it was reported in the media about the arrest of the spy network and the intrusion into the Lebanese intelligence service, but so far it has not been reported that a senior member of the organization has been arrested on suspicion of espionage.

According to the allegations, the purpose of the senior recruitment was to spy on senior Lebanese intelligence officers as well as to obtain information about Hezbollah members, the location of their homes and positions.

It was further alleged that "Zionist agents" had managed to infiltrate several other important economic and civic organizations.

The Iranian news agency claimed that Israel uses social networks to recruit young people suffering from the desperate economic situation in Lebanon and offers them small sums of money in exchange for relatively small acts of espionage.

"Initially, the operators ask the recruits to perform small tasks such as deliveries or actions that seem illogical, and transfer small sums of money to them, between one hundred and two hundred dollars."

The Iranians claimed that the funds were transferred to Lebanon from straw companies operated by the Mossad in African and Far Eastern countries and that the recruitment project received a small budget relative to intelligence operation in a foreign country.

It has also been claimed that the Lebanese agents recruited are usually aware that they work for Israel, but in some cases mistakenly think that they are working for some international organization.

The news agency concludes the investigation by stating that Israel's control of cyber space poses a challenge for the Lebanese authorities, and estimates that another large Israeli spy network may be exposed in the coming days.
