PM Lapid to chair the first meeting of the Transitional Government • Yesterday he delivered a state of the nation address and called for the "common good" to be chosen

The government convenes today (Sunday) for the first meeting chaired by Yair Lapid.

As you may recall, Prime Minister Lapid took office last Friday. It is also the first meeting of the transitional government. In the meantime, Lapid will fly to France during the week for his first diplomatic visit and will meet with President Macron.

At the entrance to the meeting, Defense Minister Bnei Gantz referred to the interception of Hezbollah UAVs near a shark rig. "Hezbollah is complicating Lebanon and keeping it away from the agreement on economic water," Gantz said.

Yesterday, Lapid delivered his first speech as prime minister.

Lapid praised his social platform and expressed his unanimity around the central issues in the discourse: "We should choose the common good, what connects us. There will always be disagreements, the question is how we manage them, and how we will make sure they do not manage us. Disagreement is not necessarily a bad thing at all "It still does not harm our governmental stability and internal resilience. As long as we remember that we all have the same goal: a Jewish, democratic, liberal, large, strong, progressive and prosperous Israel."

"The big Israeli question is why exactly at a time when there is broad national agreement between us on all important issues, the levels of hatred and anxiety within Israeli society are so great?"

He wondered.

"The answer is - politics. In Israel, extremism does not come from the streets to politics, but on the contrary, it flows like lava from politics to the streets. The political space has become more and more extreme, violent and evil, and it is dragging Israeli society after it. We must stop it."

Lapid, who also serves as foreign minister for the time being, said that "Israel reaches out to all the peoples of the Middle East, including the Palestinians, and says, 'It is time for you to recognize that we will never move.' Let us learn to live together." "Israel will do everything necessary to prevent Iran from reaching a nuclear capability or basing itself on our borders. I tell all those who seek our evil, from Gaza to Tehran, from the shores of Lebanon to Syria, do not try us. Israel will know how to use its force against any threat and enemy."

Meanwhile, Lapid also referred to the Israeli prisoners held by the Hamas organization and said that: "We will not be quiet or rested until our sons, Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul are remembered, Avra Mengistu and Hisham a-Sayed."
