Buckingham Palace announced this morning (Sunday) the reduction of the "duties" of the Queen of England, Elizabeth II, and the transfer of some of her powers to the regent, Prince Charles.
According to the palace announcement, the queen, 96, and in poor health, will not attend the opening ceremony of parliament in Westminster and will not hold official trips outside the country.
This is the first time in a decade that the palace has reassessed the Queen's powers.
Officials at Buckingham Palace told the British Daily Mail that this was not a "drastic step" and that the Queen would continue to retain her two main powers as head of state and head of nation and that her health condition would allow her to carry them out.
The Queen recently celebrated 70 years since her coronation and thus became the oldest ruler in British history as well as the oldest incumbent head of state in the entire world.
