Tegernsee – The renovation of the Alpbach bridge on the B307 in Tegernsee has started.
The construction work will take almost four months.
Traffic is regulated by traffic lights.
Thousands of cars and heavy trucks roll over it every day: Now the Rosenheim State Building Authority is helping to build the bridge over the Alpbach in Tegernsee.
The bridge from the 1960s will be renovated from Monday 4 July.
“The bridge mainly shows age-related damage.
The increasing traffic, but also the weather, did the rest,” explains Zacharias Kleber, head of the Structural Engineering department at the Rosenheim State Building Authority.
"With the general renovation, we are structurally repairing the bridge again for the next few decades and thus preventing the bridge from having to be demolished prematurely and rebuilt."
Bridge construction is exposed
In the course of the renovation, the bridge caps with sidewalk and railings will be demolished and the road surface will be removed.
The exact damage to the superstructure made of reinforced concrete is then assessed.
A tree had to be felled beforehand.
"With an expert eye, the extent of the bridge damage can usually be determined from the outside," says Zacharias Kleber.
"But internal damage such as insufficient concrete cover, defective concrete and corrosion of the reinforcement can only be identified and repaired by exposing the bridge structure."
Goal: Complete by October 21st
After the repair work on the superstructure, the roadway slab is resealed, the curbs set, the pavement caps concreted, a new railing installed and finally a new roadway surface applied.
The general renovation of the bridge will take a good three and a half months.
“We decided to renovate the Alpbach Bridge with a half-way closure in order to keep the traffic disruption to a minimum.
If everything goes well, we should be able to finish it by October 21,” the head of department is confident.
Traffic light regulates traffic on B307
During the entire renovation period, traffic will be guided over the bridge with a traffic-dependent construction site traffic light on a narrow lane.
"We ask all road users to be particularly careful in the construction site area and to understand the restrictions that may arise," says Zacharias Kleber.
