The Rosenheim district office reports a successful deployment of the hail flyers.

They were able to successfully fight the thunderstorm cell over the Inn Valley.

Rosenheim – No, the thunderstorm cell that swept across southern Bavaria on Thursday evening, June 30th, did not have a corona.

Nevertheless, she was vaccinated: by hail fly pilots.

In fact, that's the term used in modern day severe weather action.

If there is a threat of extreme hail, hail flyers are deployed – and carry out cloud vaccination.

This is what happened now during the storm over southern Bavaria.

Storm in Bavaria successfully combated by hailstorm flyers: vaccinated thunderstorm cell

Heavy hailstorms can cause a great deal of damage: they pose a serious threat not only to cars or panes of glass, but also to agriculture. If such a scenario threatens, many places around the world resort to hailstorms.

They then apply what is known as cloud seeding with silver iodide.

The chemical mixture used acts as a kind of ice nucleus and binds moisture.

The final effect: more hailstones are formed, but smaller ones, which thaw on their way to the ground and fall as rain.

On Thursday evening there was a strong thunderstorm complex on the way to the Inn Valley.

What kind of damage this can cause only became apparent at the beginning of the week, when hailstones the size of hens' eggs fell over parts of Bavaria, or on Thursday in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which was colored white by hail the size of a table tennis ball.

The district office of Rosenheim has now reported a successful fight against the thunderstorm cell over the district.

Compared to the difficult operation during the storm on Monday, this time the pilots found excellent "vaccination conditions with strong updraft zones".

Accordingly, a weakening of the intensity of the thunderstorm complex was observed shortly after the start of the vaccination.

"When we reached the Inn Valley, there was only heavy rain," says the district office happily.

The operation was completed after two hours, no major hailstorms were recorded over the Inn Valley
