Mercedes González vindicates the PSOE of Madrid as "the calm force and the responsible left"

The leader of the Socialists in the capital reproaches the councilor José Luis Martínez-Almeida for inactivity in the face of the crisis: “Where is the mayor now that agreements are needed to get out of this crisis? Asking Ayuso for forgiveness”

"We are the calm force and the responsible left that works for the safety, quality of life and well-being of the people of Madrid."

Mercedes González, general secretary of the PSOE in the city of Madrid, has closed this Sunday the municipal convention of her party claiming the Madrid federation as the heart of "this centenary party" and as the only possible alternative to the PP, which governs the capital for two decades, in next year's municipal elections.

“We are the best opportunity that Madrid can have”, she has settled.

Also, there has been room for criticism of the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, who has been criticized for inactivity in the face of the economic crisis.

"Where is the mayor of the Agreements of the Villa,

Now that agreements are needed to get out of this crisis?

Do you know where the mayor is?

Apologizing to [Isabel Díaz-] Ayuso to let him be a candidate”, she has said.

It was the closing ceremony of the municipal convention of the PSOE Madrid Ciudad, a conclave that has served the new group in the capital to debate the strategy for the city, a debate prior to the electoral program, and which has been held in the Palace of Cibeles.

González, who is also the Government delegate in the community, came out on stage accompanied by the Secretary General of her party in the region, Juan Lobato, and the Deputy Secretary General of the PSOE, Adriana Lastra.

In her intervention, she has compared Almeida's inaction with what the central government, chaired by the socialist Pedro Sánchez, is doing in favor of the capital.

She has recalled the measures taken to reduce inflation and has stressed that Sánchez has not stopped "taking measures from the first moment, with all the conviction of the ideas of the PSOE,

to protect the middle and working classes.

However, González continued, the Madrid City Council "has resources" to apply "solidarity measures to the families most affected [by the crisis] and to SMEs", and it has not done so.

"Almeida is silent, just like before the closure of the SUAP."

In addition, the socialist leader, Juan Lobato, has sent the militants the message that it is necessary to go for the comeback.

“At this stage we have raised our heads, with pride, without sorrow, or depression.

It's enough to lick your wounds.

We have to go for it all in Madrid ”, he launched.

The Socialists have not been able to find a way to seduce the people of Madrid electorally and have gone from bump to bump at the polls since 2007. Since that year, the PSOE has lost 264,311 votes.

Or put another way: more than 54% of their voters.

In the last elections, the candidate Pepu Hernández, a former basketball coach, obtained eight mayors and 223,582 votes, which placed the party as the fourth force in the City Council, behind Más Madrid, PP and Ciudadanos.

The numbers are clear: either comeback or irrelevance.
