They were on the road again, the Söckinger firefighters, to take part in the vintage car world championship on the Großglockner with their vintage car - an experience that no one will forget.

Söcking

- Söcking's board member Fritz Obermeier and his colleagues Christian Hauptmann, Thomas Obermeier, Herbert Obermeier, Ludwig Mayr, Daniel Pascher, Gerhard Moser, Benjamin Bauer, Dorothee Hauptmann, Maximilian Obermeier, Florian Obermeier, Rebecca Obermeier, Benjamin Otto, Laura Osthues, Veronika Püschel and Peter Obermeier from Söcking as well as Marcus and Luis Fohrmann from the Hadorf fire brigade summarized the trip:

"After a successful participation in the fire brigade vintage world championship in Bruck an der Großglocknerstraße in 2019, after the Corona break, we took part again this year with 16 comrades from Söcking with our fire brigade vintage TLF 16/25, built in 1974 The second commander of the Hadorf fire brigade, Marcus Fohrmann, and his son joined us in a private fire engine LF 8 (built in 1986) owned by Rudi Zirngibl.

Departure for three eventful days was on Friday morning.

After a short break from the drive and registration, the first task came in the late afternoon, a regularity drive.

A route of unknown length should be driven at an average speed of 32.3 km/h.

The route went up part of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

With a small deviation of only 16.7 seconds, we were able to successfully complete this competition.

We then enjoyed dinner and the following happy evening in the best of moods and with first-class weather.

The second competition ride was scheduled for Saturday morning and everyone could feel the tension.

At 7.30 a.m. we started on the Großglocknerstraße from Bruck (750 meters high) up to the Fuscher Törl (2431 meters).

The organizers around Christian Hutter from the fire brigade in Bruck an der Großglocknerstraße had come up with exciting framework conditions.

The approximately 26-kilometer route was divided into two sections of equal length, and the travel time was measured on each section.

The task now was to complete both sections in the same time.

This was particularly difficult and challenging because in the lower part there was a construction site with traffic lights to drive through, in the upper area many hairpin bends had to be mastered and therefore planning the journey due to the vehicles ahead, which in our case were mostly slower,

was hardly possible.

Despite these adversities, we managed to arrive at the Fuscher Törl with a difference of only 27.2 seconds.

Two more highlights awaited us at a lofty height, with the best views and bright sunshine.

The Austrian comrades had planned a world record attempt in the field of water pumping.

The teams with 40 portable fire pumps took up positions along the high alpine road early on Saturday morning.

A distance of 9.3 kilometers and a height difference of 1435 meters had to be overcome.

Almost 500 B-hoses were used and around 400 firefighters were involved.

The difficulty of the world record attempt was not just the amount of material, but in particular the coordination of the pump performance.

On the Edelweißspitze at an altitude of 2572 meters, people waited with great excitement for the water to arrive.

Around 12 o'clock it was time.

With great cheers, sirens and cannon shots, a department of the Austrian youth fire brigade was able to use several C-tubes from the Edelweißspitze - the world record attempt was successful.

A ceremony was held on Saturday afternoon to mark the successful world record attempt.

Then we went to the marquee, where we waited with great excitement for the award ceremony.

The result: With our performance in the two competition drives, we were in fifth place out of a total of 78 participants in the overall ranking of the world championship – 14 seconds behind the world champion with a total driving time of 73 minutes.

This was a terrific improvement compared to the 2019 participation (54th place overall), which was another reason to celebrate.

A moving day ended with a great party, which we will not only remember the day after, but also in the weeks and months to come.

On Sunday morning, after a fantastic tour around Bruck and Kapaun,

we made our way back to Söcking.

We got there in the afternoon safely and without any problems.

Our conclusion: Three very exciting and exhausting days are behind us, with many new and good impressions.

Not only the Großglockner was within reach, but also the world championship title.

The World Cup was a great experience, the organization by the volunteer fire brigade in Bruck an der Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße was outstanding.

However, the camaraderie that came to the fore again on these days deserves special mention. There was a good mood, friendliness, whether young people or adults, everyone had fun, not only in the evening in the marquee.

As an association and especially as chairman, we can only be proud of such members.

Our tanker once again did well and showed no weaknesses, which is certainly also due to the excellent technical preparation of the vehicle by our commander, Hans Obermeier.

Not to forget our two drivers Thomas and Ludwig, who achieved great results in the competitions and brought us home safe and sound.”
