Opinion | The Government's Social Score Sheet Israel today

2022-07-03T20:16:34.429Z

When summarizing the sheet of the socio-economic results of the Lapid-Bennett Coalition in the year in which it functioned, the score is insufficient.

I supported the "government of change", I preferred it over elections.

It had an important connection far beyond Rak-La-Bibi.

I see her accomplishments in stabilizing the state in the last year and approving a state budget after three years.

And yet, when summing up the socio-economic results sheet of the Lapid-Bennett Coalition in the year in which it functioned, the score is insufficient.

On the one hand we have beautiful beginnings.

For the first time ever, food security components enter the state budget base and expand the national venture to starving families.

The Credit Fund has finally gone out to tender.

A climate law that marks a direction.

Beginning of investments in Arab authorities, including a fight against criminal organizations.

Welfare Services Act.

Back to package deals with workers 'and employers' organizations.

Significant.

And yet, these are not satisfactory achievements.

The Treasury halted plans to revise the minimum wage in a period of price highs.

The public transport reform directly affects some authorities in the periphery with local price increases for buses and trains, which reach hundreds of percent.

The daycare subsidy has been hurt.

Electricity prices are about to skyrocket.

No wage agreements were signed with the striking bus drivers and with the teachers' organizations.

The massive departure of police officers, drivers, counselors, social workers and public service teachers has not received a deep and determined response.

An agreement to compensate the evacuees of Givat Amal did not materialize.

No strategic plans have been promoted to combat poverty and reduce disparities in education, health and employment.

The Postal Authority was completely privatized.

One example of the huge gap between the discourse on change and correction and reality itself was revealed right at the end of the coalition activity.

The Arrangements Law stipulated that the Ministry of Housing would purchase 1,700 apartments for the benefit of dwindling public housing.

In the Knesset debates, it was revealed that not a single apartment was purchased in the past year!

It is embarrassing and outrageous to see how the Ministries of Housing and Finance roll guilt from one to another.

The result is painful: Tens of thousands of those entitled to public housing continue to wait for many years.

The violation is a fundamental right to shelter, for so many children and their parents, the disabled and new immigrants.

Social disparities continue to grow.

Children in the periphery continue to be thrown to the margins of investment and achievement relative to their peers at the center, and social services continue to deteriorate.

There is a big discount for the government, which disbanded just a year later.

She might have reached further heights, but the direction did not bode well.

When a tree grows crooked it is difficult to straighten it.

The government of change could initiate an amendment in favor of the second Israel, after years of neglect.

The miss plays again into the Netanyahu bloc.

The transitional government and the one that will follow it must bring about a real revolution in thinking and action, in order to reach an improved socio-economic score.

let it be.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
