What was he doing in the Parc de la Villette?

Why did he dive?

Many questions remain this Sunday and for the moment no answer sheds light on the fall of a young person of about 16 or 17 years old, this Saturday at the start of the evening in the Canal de l'Ourcq, not far from the Geode du Parc de la Villette (20th century).

According to the first elements and testimonies, passers-by saw this teenager jumping into the water, around 8 p.m.

He would quickly find himself in trouble.

Witnesses would then have alerted the emergency services.

The Paris firefighters, as well as the river brigade, intervened and were able to get the teenager out of the water, unconscious and in absolute emergency, but alive.

The victim was then evacuated by helicopter to the Parisian hospital of Pitié-Salpêtrière, but succumbed this Sunday morning.

His identity has not been revealed but it would be a young isolated minor from Choisy-le-Roi (Val-de-Marne).

A few days ago, a woman had tried to end her life by throwing herself into the Seine, at the level of the Pont d'Arcole.

A jogging constable spotted the desperate woman and managed to save her.

Last year, at the same time, between June 1 and July 5, more than 300 accidental drownings, including 79 fatalities, had occurred in France, according to the drowning survey revealed by Public Health France (SPF).
