Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the depth of relations between Russia and Belarus and the two countries' keenness to develop strategic partnership and alliance relations in the interest of the two brotherly peoples.

Today, in a congratulatory message to his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, on the occasion of the independence of the Republic of Belarus, Putin was quoted by Sputnik as saying: “Today, citizens of Russia and Belarus maintain and continue to strengthen ties of friendship, alliance and mutual assistance, and through the development of strategic partnership and alliance relations, the two countries overcome serious adversities and defend their interests on global arena.”

Putin expressed his confidence that through joint efforts, the two countries will continue to build constructive bilateral relations, improve the institutions of the Union state and promote integration processes in the Eurasian space, and this, of course, meets the fundamental interests of the peoples of the two countries.

“July 3rd is an important date not only in the history of Belarus, but also in Russia and our two brotherly peoples who fought side by side and made a decisive contribution to the victory over Nazism,” Putin added.
