The former commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Vladimir Komoedov, confirmed that the Ukrainian Navy celebrates its birthday without a fleet because its warships were either sunk or damaged and unable to fight.
"The Ukrainian Navy has turned into a riverine force, as it has only a few armored boats left, which at best can move along the Dnieper River," Komedov said in a statement to RIA Novosti.
He noted that after the division of the Soviet Black Sea Fleet in 1997, the Ukrainian Navy had more than 100 warships.
He added, "Even the newest frigate at that time in the Black Sea Fleet, "Gitman Saghidachny", went to Ukraine, but now it was completely destroyed, as its crew sank it in the port of Nikolaev to avoid its capture by Russian forces.
