July 3rd is Franconian Day - a festival that Markus Söder, who was born in Nuremberg, did not want to miss.

Aschaffenburg - Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder declared his homeland one of the "most beautiful regions in the world" on Franconian Day.

The festival, which takes place in a different city every year, should be understood as a declaration of love for Franconia, he said on Sunday (July 3) in Aschaffenburg.

Separation from Bavaria?

Söder: "Franconia is not Catalonia"

After an interruption due to the corona pandemic, the Day of the Franconia, which was launched in 2006 and decided by the Bavarian State Parliament, took place again this year with a big festival.

Söder with a declaration of love to Franconia

The Franconian is down-to-earth, close to culture, connected to his homeland and has a lovely language, said Söder.

When a Franconian returns from vacation, he looks forward to the Franconian food on the way, explained the CSU boss.

And even if it sometimes takes a while before you get to know a Franconian: "If you do, then you have them as a friend for life." The Franconians are a very loyal tribe.

The Lower Franconians, who are organizing the festival this year, are perhaps the happiest among the Franks, said the prime minister, who is himself a Middle Franconian.

"Whether it's the wine or the sun - I don't know." Aschaffenburg, which is close to Hesse, is the gateway to Bavaria.

"We would never want to give up Aschaffenburg."

“What unites us: Our cultural awareness, hearty cuisine and a high level of loyalty.
