Ten Sparkasse branches in Regensburg will close at the end of the year.

The reason is changed customer behavior.

But the bank gives a job guarantee.

Regensburg – The world is becoming more and more digital.

Writing emails, shopping online and uploading photos to social media have all become part of everyday life.

Even the banks cannot resist this change.

The Sparkasse in Regensburg is now drawing consequences.

At the end of the year, ten branches in the city will close – according to their own statements, because the online banking offer is so well received.

Sparkasse Regensburg: online banking is supplanting over-the-counter business

The Sparkasse Regensburg press release from last week states: “The online banking quota of our Sparkasse is above average compared to the rest of Bavaria.

The number of users has been increasing for years, digital services are constantly being expanded, app use has doubled.” In return, the number of customers in the branches has continued to decline.

Corona has accelerated this development again, according to Irene Dullinger, CEO of Sparkasse Regensburg.

Dullinger continues: "Banking is now mostly done from home, many customers pay contactless or with their mobile phone, the transfer or standing order is only very rarely given in the branch." The company now has to take this into account.

That's why Sparkasse Regensburg wants to "bundle its forces" in the future, said Deputy CEO Markus Witt.

Sparkasse Regensburg: Hardly any staff found

This means that from January 1, 2023 there will be ten fewer Sparkasse branches in Regensburg.

For this purpose, they want to set up nationwide with 21 advice centers, the message goes on to say.

The ten smallest branches of the currently 31 locations with a “critical operating size” are particularly affected.

They will be integrated into the nearby advice centers.

Specifically, these branches are concerned: Arnulfsplatz, Adolf-Schmetzer-Straße, Laaber, Kallmünz, Sinzing, Beratzhausen, Zeitlarn, Schlesierstraße, Tegernheim and Burgweinting.

With the bundling of forces, however, one does not only want to react to the changed customer behavior.

They also want to counteract an impending shortage of skilled workers.

In the past few years, there have always been difficulties finding staff in the affected branches, Witt continued.

Sparkasse Regensburg: Bank promises cash

Anyone who is now afraid that they will soon have to travel long distances to get their cash is reassured by Manfred Pitzl, a member of the Management Board.

Existing jobs are not at risk either.

“Of course, cash supply on site will remain secured at all locations, all of our self-service locations will remain in place.

All of our employees’ jobs will also be retained.” (

In Bad Tölz there will no longer be any cash at the Sparkasse counter.

A difficult transition for retirees.
