The detention of 24-year-old Atef Khaledi from Nazareth, who is accused of murdering toddler Amer Hujirat last January, has been extended until the end of the proceedings against him, Judge Nitzan Silman ordered this morning (Sunday) in the Haifa District Court.

Hujirat was three years old when he was shot dead by a stray bullet while playing in a playground in Bir al-Maksur in the Lower Galilee.

Judge Silman noted in his decision "extreme-level danger" after prosecutor Shunit Kedem mentioned the use of the weapon and said that "there is no place to order a survey and there is no alternative that has to nullify the danger."

Judge Silman denied the request of defense attorneys Tami Ullman, Shadi Saruji and Moshe Gilad, who requested that a review be conducted for Khaledi on behalf of the probation service.

"Maybe someone else will decide otherwise, but not me," he said.

However, the judge also noted that there are difficulties “at almost every point” in the case.

He said, "The case is difficult and will remain so until someone looks at the whole campaign. I lack people, I lack weapons."

Khaledi is charged with aggravated murder in aggravated circumstances, aggravated intentional sabotage of weapons offenses and obstruction of justice in an incident that claimed the child's life while playing in a public park in the village.

The trial itself will begin only after the court recess.

According to the indictment, Khaledi was driving about 300 meters from the park, and according to eyewitnesses who were present at the scene, he and another person got out of the vehicle with their faces covered and opened fire at an engineering tool at a construction site at the site.

Eyewitnesses present at the playground at the time saw toddler Hujirat fall, and police were called to the scene.

The toddler's parents and other relatives were also present at the hearing, accompanied by attorney Muna Abdel Yunis Khatib, who represents the family on behalf of the Ministry of Justice's Sena program. Adv. Khatib noted that the family To digest the heavy loss. "

At the end of the hearing, a brawl broke out in the courtroom, between the defendant's family and the family of the three-year-old who was murdered.
