Thousands of residents in southwestern Sydney, Australia's largest city, were called today (Sunday) to evacuate their homes due to a massive rainstorm that has hit the continent's east coast and is expected to continue raining heavy showers for the next two days.
The large amount of precipitation on the east coast of the continent in the area of the state of New South Wales, stands at about 200 mm in most places and in some places the heavy rainfall has reached 350 mm.
Such a drop of 20 inches of rain per day threatens to flood the area and cause large floods while at the same time gusty winds from the sea can cause flooding along the coast.
It is important to note that these are areas that have already been hit by such a heavy rainfall last March.
The New South Wales emergency services minister held a special press conference warning of the floods, saying "we are now facing dangers on multiple fronts - floods, river floods and coastal erosion."
Carlin York, the commissioner of government emergency services, also issued a statement on the subject in which she said: "We do not have the option to be complacent. In fact at the moment there is no place for water to remain in dams. The rains have fallen. "

These warnings about the continuing wave of rain were also accompanied by various emergencies in which 29 civilians were already rescued from the floods.
In one case a survivor stood inside the flood on a pillar for an hour until the rescuers managed to reach it.
Meanwhile, the Central Government of Sydney has already intervened and provided the Wales Government with 100 fighters, sandbags as well as two helicopters to assist in the many rescues and dealing with the floods.
This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Australia Richard Marles.
