A truck driver who reached a speed of more than 560 km / h thanks to the jet engines assembled in it, was killed yesterday (Saturday) after the vehicle crashed during a race against two planes at an air show in Michigan in the United States. The
specially built racing truck was equipped with three jet engines Horsepower, crashed during the Pyrotechnic segment of the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Chris Darnell, 40, the truck driver, was killed, said Barbara Haluska, festival director.
"Chris crashed and the truck overturned, and unfortunately he did not survive," she told the New York Times.
"The accident is under investigation."
His father, Neil Darnell, said that "Chris really liked the air show business. He lived the dream."
In eyewitness videos, the truck can be seen accelerating on the runway in pursuit of two planes, with flames bursting from its rear, while the announcer exclaims excitedly "Here he comes fast! Here he comes really fast!".
The aircraft that participated in the race were Zivko Edge 540 and MXS-RH.
The pilots of the planes were not injured.
